Research

During my research, I didn’t know what opening credits were for, so I had to go and search it up. Opening credits is to list the most important members at the beginning of the film. It had me thinking if it was similar to credits at the end of the film. They are but the ending credits list more than just the important members they list everyone and everything that was part of the film. If you look at any movie all of them have to end credit and only some have opening credits. I believe that the films that have opening credits are trying to get their viewers to watch the film because if they see someone, they like they are most likely going to watch the film.

One of the things I was also wondering about is if opening credits and title sequences were the same things, but I guess they aren’t. A title sequence is an actual scene that takes place before the film starts. Opening credits are just the list of important members of the film in the beginning. If you go to Landekic Published December 27, Lola. “Top 10 Title Sequences of 2020.” Art of the Title, 27 Dec. 2020, www.artofthetitle.com/feature/top-10-title-sequences-of-2020/. and look at the invisible man title sequence you could see the difference between the two. A title sequence is like more of an interactive opening with the audience.

The opening sequences are an important role at the beginning of the film. They help establish the tone, character, plot, and theme of the film. Techniques that film directors use in order to employ the opening sequence are keeping the fronts small so that there aren’t titles taken over the whole screen or awkward size titles. Another technique is to pick tasteful fonts so that the titles aren’t overly styled. This other technique they use is don’t animate the titles because the titles might fall behind. Also, use framing guides so that they are at the position you want them at and not crooked. This other technique is to avoid drop shadows so that the title stands out and matches the date of the film.
